Up for auction is a library/rebound edition of two Asa Gray books from 1867 & 1868. The first book is Gray's Lessons In Botany & Vegetable Physiology (Illustrated by over 300 wood engravings from original drawings by Isaac Sprague to which is added a copious glossary or dictionary of botanical terms) from 1868 & published by Ivison, Blakeman, Taylor & Co. New Yourk/Chicago. It is 236 pages in length, has numerous illustrations, & is probably the 2nd edition. The 2nd book is Manual Of The Botany Of The Northern United States (Including The District East Of The Mississippi And North Of North Carolina & Tennessee Arranged According To The Natural System from 1867 (5th Edition/Eighth Issue) & published by Ivison, Blakeman, Taylor & Co. New Yourk/Chicago. It is 701 pages in length & has 20 plates at the end of the book. NOTE: page 221/222 is damaged & taped, page 223/224 is missing the bottom third of the page, & page 283/284 has a diagonal chunk missing (about 40% of the page). Despite the problems mentioned, a solid/clean/tight copy in good to very good (GVG) condition with light wear but some faint water damage to the top edge of the pages & to the plates (the worst damage is to these/see scans).
