In 1964 the Larks took "The Jerk" into the top 10. One of my favorite songs named after a dance. Vocally, the Larks sound a lot like the Impressions on this one. A year later, the Rolling Stones released the song "I'm Free" on the flip of "Get Off My Cloud". Don't know if others can hear a similarity in the two songs, but I do. Flash forward another 15 years and compare Jagger's falsetto vocal (I guess that's what it's called) on "Emotional Rescue" to the vocal on "The Jerk". Of course, I think the Esquires borrowed the song for their hits "Get On Up" and the similar sounding "And Get Away" from 1967. But then again, maybe it's just my conspiracy theory.
