Thanks for the kudos, Steve! It makes me cringe to hear people calling Howard's style "dated," but I guess I can understand where that's coming from. Being classically trained, I find his arrangements to be musically complex enough that I find them interesting ... and difficult to learn! I agree with whomever said that his Gershwin book is the most difficult. Personally, I like his Ellington book the best. Some of his books are now out of print. But in a very pleasant email exchange sometime ago, Howard told me that at least some of his older stuff would be coming out in columns for "Fingerstyle Guitar" and "Just Jazz."
Regards,
Margaret

I've been meaning to get his books (despite the fact I'm not a 7-string > player).> I know Margaret Wilson recorded a couple of his arrangements on her > soundclick page--sounded great!>

Figures--that's what I most wanted to get. Am I imagining that Carlos Barbosa-Lima has Gershwin arrangements out too? I seem to remember Aryeh Eller mentioning them. Maybe it was only a recording and the arrangements haven't been published. I'm sure I haven't a prayer of playing them either, I just like to hear what can be done.
