| A remote controlled USB camera Angela Marsh 05:49:55 |
| | I have some pet birds in their own room, next door to my office.
I'd like to put up an AC powered camera in there, that would wirelessly transmit to a receiver that would go into my computer via USB port.
I'd like to be able to watch, and maybe record videos of their singing and antics, without interrupting them, by doing this.
I understand X10 stuff is cheap junk, but what is there that won't cost a lot, yet would still be reliable, that would enable me to do this?

| 2 questions about digital cameras Neil Jones 03:33:38 |
| | Hi,
I am looking into digital cameras. Previously I owned a Canon Powershot G3. After I sold that, my wife and I got a Powershot SD1000 as a gift. Now I am looking around again for camera that I like.
At the time I got Powershot G3, it was considered a "Prosumer" camera. Now, when I searched for a "prosumer camera", I get a listing of Digital SLR cameras too. I am trying to stay with "point and shoot" although I do love some of the SLR cameras that I found (which are out of my price range now).
I do like the Canon Powershot G10. Considering it's lineage, I would consider it as a prosumer camera. Where do the experts in the field create the demarcation for point-and-shoot cameras between the consumer, prosumer, professional cameras?
My second question is, What other brands are out there that are competing for the Canon G10 consumers? (looking for prosumer point-and-shoot cameras list only). This way I can compare them and buy the one that fits my needs.
Thank you in advance for any information and advice.

| Slideshow on Blue Ray Question Gerry 01:23:08 |
| | I have several cd's of digital pics from vacations which played ok on my previous standard dvd player. When I got a Panasonic BD player and a Sony BD player, neither would display all the pics on the cd's. Can anyone advise why and if anything can be done to fix this? The pic's were all taken in jpeg mode on Canon cameras, an XTI and a A1000S. Both Bd players were using the HDMI input.

I wish to replace my F11 which I lost and have reached the conclusion that either the F60 or the F100 would be suitable replacements Any views would be most welcome If you're used to using the higher ISO settings on the F11 you may find anything in the Fuji line that's newer than the F31 to be disappointing. Given the choice between the F60 and the F100 though I think I'd go for the F100.

| Question STRICTLY for Nikon D experts only... Gasser 09:49:02 |
| | This is a question STRICTLY for Nikon D experts/technicians only!
Is there a way to stop a FULL-FRAME Nikon D-SLR (any of D3, D700, D3x) from auto-masking** the outer region of the sensor when a DX-type lens is fitted?
** By auto-masking is meant the reduction of the apparent frame size from approx. 35.9mmx24mm to approx. 23.6mmx15.7mm.
Such ways could include a software setting override, downloaded patch, insulating of camera body or lens contact or a more radical hardware alteration of camera or lens functionality.
My clients are willing to pay for such a modification.
The advantage is obvious. DX lenses cover a circular region notably bigger than the APS-C sensor size of the other Nikon D-SLRs. Many can cover more than APS-H. Longer ones almost cover FF. Also, even if one restricts the coverage to the smallest circle containing APS-C, a square of side 20mm is possible, giving 8.4% more coverage than APS-C.
Replies only in the newsgroup, thanks. The email shown is munged.

| CHDK RAW File-saving time boosted + DNG format BarryHaps 06:36:46 |
| | Cool, the latest builds of CHDK have speeded up RAW+JPG file saving time now of 1.080 to 1.100 seconds on my camera. It has an option to display the file-write time on each shot. Continuous RAW at 1fps up to the size of the card. Nice.
They save RAW files directly to DNG format now too.

Thanks for showing the world the exact kind of people that buy DSLRs, you couldn't have proved the P&S's advantages better than you just did. World, take note. Only complete idiots who don't know a thing about photography buy DSLRs. This "shiva das" has just proved it, again. Well, that is an interesting point of view. Unfortunately you made a slight mistake in your mind reading -- I use a digital p&s for quick snaps and several _film_ SLRs for real photography. I use no DSLRs and never have.
How do you fit that in your miniscule worldview?
