| Looking for a nice purse camera for not a lot of money Sarah Houston 12:36:30 |
| | I'd like to take pretty decent photos ( I'm not a pro or anything ) with a small light weight camera that I can keep in my purse.
I want something better than my Blackberry's camera, yet not super expensive, heavy or bulky, because it does have to fit the purse.
Something with USB of course, for transferring files to the PC.
Is there anything with a pretty decent lens too?

Vern, <CashTownsend> wrote: Although some P&S lenses are quite good, none are f/1.8 or faster, most have purple fringing CA problems & there are no really wide recitilear options on P&S. You failed to read to what you are trying to refute. Already covered and disputed. Points #1, #2, etc. Purple fringing is a problem of ALL digital cameras. It is NOT caused by the lens, but by the sensor (are you actually this stupid?). Some DSLRs are worse in this regard than the better P&S cameras. Purple fringing is not just in the realm of P&S cameras. But only a moron would say something like that. Correction. The purple fringing that plagues most P&S cameras is rarely seen in dslrs. The problem is partly the sensor, which is made worse by the small size of the P&S version. The other part of the problem is the extremely short focal lengths of lenses on P&S cameras. It used to be believed that purple fringing was sensor blooming, maybe it is a part of how tiny pixels emphasize CA in the lens but mostly it is CA of the sort that you see is super-fast DSLR lenses, or cheap lenses. I think this is because it is challenging making such tiny lenses and designing them on the far limits of speed (which still isn't very fast). Yeah I know that's a pretty wish-washy answer but it's my best understanding from quite a bit of reading on the subject over the years and using a lot of different lenses. Feel free to add to that. I've got a good enough reputation in here, I don't think I need to dig up links. Take it for what it's worth. It doesn't really matter to me. Anyways the effect is rare on DSLRs and ubiquitous on P&S as anyone knows.
Lenses faster than f/2.0 are often subject to optical aberrations due to being difficult to figure properly. Yep. Pretty much impossible for P&S, easy for normal focal lengths on DSLRs harder for wide & super-tele. Yes there are some odd effects, they are still very useful and can be stopped down to clean them up.
They can only be used effectively at one aperture to gain optimum use from them. Almost true on P&S. Diffraction won't let you stop down much without losing resolution, maybe 2 stops of play versus 6 or more stops to play with on fast DSLR lenses on full frame.

| Nikon D700x another Nikon upgrade? .. 01:12:54 |
| | Nikon brings out a new DSLR only to update it 6 months later. The D700 has not be available that long and now they are discontinuing it and replacing it with an upgrade, D700X. They did the same with the D40X introduced it and then 4 months later discontinued it. I was looking at a D90 but if there is a chance it could be discontinued in 6 months maybe I should wait?

| Looking for RA4 roller transport processor Ken Hart1 22:00:30 |
| | I'm looking to buy a working RA-4 roller transport capable of handling at least 30" wide prints. Hopefully located somewhere near SW Indiana.
Barring that, I might be looking for 30"x40" trays and a sufficiently large water-jacket sink.

| Beseler 810 V-XL Cold Light Enlarger David Mendelsohn 16:06:28 |
| | Sweet enlarger for the serious large format user. Incredibly sturdy and in mint shape. Will shoot all formats from 35mm up to 8x10 but bought it for the latter. Two bases, the original 24 x 30 " and the optional 31 x 36 " . The head can also be turned 90 degrees to shoot against the wall, though I've never needed to do this. All instruction manuals. All film carriers including the 8x10 and all Kodak 300 x 350 mm Acetate Gels for VC. They slip below the light source but above the lens and neg in it's own drawer. Read about " cold light " for it's advantages. Transformer/stabilizer for head and a digital Graylab timer. All instruction manuals. If you Google around, you will find this to be a great piece of gear at a very good price.
1200 Bucks Would rather not ship, but can do. Shipping will be at cost but done by
professionals. We live near Portsmouth NH., one hour north of Boston. FedX Ground seems to be quicker and cheaper than UPS.
Also have four mounted lenses for a package price. To be clear, they don't come w/ the enlarger . If you want them, add 250 bucks to the price. Fujinon 135 / 4.5 Bessler 240 / 9 El Nikkor 50 / 2.8 El Nikkor 80 / 2.8

| Current view on drum scanning? Airbus 22:26:48 |
| | What's the consensus, as we close 2008? Anyone still using drum scanners with PMT tubes? Any particular reason, from a photographer's point of view, why this technology is still pertinent, or do most users fee that fletbed scanners have come to where they can replace this older technology?
Interested to hear views from anyone still using this. . .
Thanks
