Ideas currently include white ropelights, 4-way floods (eg Coda/4) end-on either side, and picture lights on the top (like a museum would have). I don't think Codas will be properly ventilated if side mounted. What I have used in similar situations are the small (150w) floods which you can buy at B&Q for instance. These are light enough to be screwed to the front flat.

If you are truly doing a plunge-in-and-swim production, similar to what was done in NY, there's no substitute for real pool equipment. Depending on your venue, there are above-ground products that might work.
You'd better have a good sized budget and a deck that can take an unbelievable amount of weight per square foot!!

One easy, and permanent, way to frost Plexiglas is to sand it with a random orbital sander. Start with a 120-grit and move to an 80- or 60- to increase the opacity. Remember to do this with proper ventilation and/or a respirator to avoid inhaling acrylic dust. It will take about an hour per 4'x8' sheet to get proper even sanding. Hope this helps. -- David
Or sandblast it, or apply gel frost or buy a rol of adheive backed film from the diy store.

| Sound design for dummies John W Kennedy 01:20:25 |
| | My wife has had a play accepted for the American Globe's 15-Minute Festival. <kermit>Yayyyyyyy!</kermit> The downside is that the two of us have to produce it. Casting's no problem, my wife's a director anyway, and costumes and props are modern and trivial.
But this is a piece that /must/ have sound. She hasn't done sound since the 70s, and I've never done sound at all. And I don't think we'll have any time to work on sound in the performance space.
On the upside, I do a little music, so I already have a digital mike and mixing software. Also, I've already made a test recording of the sounds I need, and can do as many more takes as I need to get it right.
But there is so much I don't know.
What is the usual medium these days? (CDs, I suppose.)
Can I expect to be able to mix two sources in performance?
Is it OK for ambiance to be monaural? If not, how do you record it in stereo in, say, a railroad station, without taking enough space with mike stands and cables to need a mountain of paperwork?
Should numbered cues have silent lead-in and lead-out? How much?
(At least I have some notion of what I don't know.)
Is there a website? A book?

I have been researching the music needed for 'Streetcar' and I am having problems coming up with exact names of songs, and finding a copy of the song. For example, 'Paper Moon' can refer to a number of songs, with the words paper moon in the title, but I cannot find a specific song just named 'Paper Moon'. That's explicitly given in the play -- "It's only a paper moon" by Harburg, Rose, and Arlen.
Or did you mean "Paper Doll"? That would be Johnny S. Black's "I'm gonna find a paper doll that I can call my own", recorded by many, including the Mills Brothers and Frank Sinatra.
The same with 'Wiener! Wien!' You mean "Wien, Wien, nur du allein". There are a dozens of recordings listed at Amazon.
and of course, who can find a recording of 'Varsouviana'. After Google and Yahoo and several more searches, all I can come up with is a video of a guy playing a squeeze box. Since it's a polka, an accordion is entirely appropriate. (In fact, Amazon lists it as one of the numbers in an accordion method.) But it doesn't seem to be readily available as a recording. You may want to find a local accordion player, unless DPS has a rentable track.

I'm trying to design and build a rain curtain for the show three days of rain. I'm looking for any advice or resources (online or print) that might help in this endeavor.
I've done a couple, you need an awfully large amount of water to make it "read", which means your 1st problem is working out how to catch it & recycle it, your second problem is a large pump to lift that much water high enough. The overhead pipe's just a piece of pipe with greenhouse watering nozzles, the easiest solution to the pump is an agricultural borehole pump, catching the water needs a trough, so unless you can make a hole in your stage then you'll want to raise the stage about 8-12" & then arrange a it so the water drains to one endwhere you collect it with a sewage/sump pump, transfer it to a barrel where the high pressure pump returns it to the overhead pipe. There's fancier solutions wher you then use solenoid valaves on the overhead nozzles to let you do wipes/opens/closes etc., but that gets very expensive, very fast. Try & see if you can get the local supplier to large agricultural greenhouses or irrigation supplies to sponsor you & lend you the kit or it's not cheap, we used over 100gallons per hour per foot, but that's quite opaque.

I got an email from google with what looks like a case number in the subject line, but nothing in the message window, so at least there's someone or something there to recognize it. Chasing spam after the slimeball has moved on is useless. Spamming is like drive-by shooting from a stolen car.
Real Usenet server operators learned that a decade ago. Google is caught in a big corporate management morass that prevents them from properly operating a Usenet service.
The problem has been controlled for decades by consientious management of the users (i.e. banishing the abusers). But Google can't do that in a "everyone is served" big corporate business model. Google have positioned themselves directly between the rock and the hard place. IMHO, they should return to their strength (providing the archives) and abandon their attempt at being a web-based service provider.
This one to me looks like flagrant obvious spam, but what about the following post about the concert stagehand, is that just spam too? I assume it is, but the message is short and sweet so I have my doubts. It is possible that it is legitimate. Surveymonkey is a legitimate survey provider. But the tone of the message and the "separate survey" intrigue just make it too questionable for my tastes. If it really IS a student project, then s/he should learn that writing a straightforward and unambiguous invitation is part of the task.
