If you are serious about buying "several", then contact ETC. They should be able to find you a unit to try for free. I've getting one lined up to try in my venue shortly. I will also be looking at the Vari*Lite VL1000.

When you get a chance to test it, test it througherly. Collect lots of feedback from other owners. Like you, I think they are quite cool, I'd consider them for a rig but I've heard a few complaints about cheep build quality and the slot-in modules breaking down. No idea if this is true or not.

You could also try the local Barbizon dealer. I'm not sure where on the West Coast you are, but most Barbizons can arrange for demo models in the store or in one of their install sites.
Although I've never played with one, the most common positive comment that I've heard is that its super, uber quiet, which is great for theater. The one drawback is that for what you would spend for a revolution, you could get a fairly decent moving light with more bells and whistles. Its a design choice.
