I'm rehabbing some more fresnels and it looks like the sockets will stay in place this time. The only problem I have is that the insulator pieces that go under the sockets are in pieces and they appear to be carbonized. I have made inquiries and it seems that nobody sells the insulators separately.
Has anyone else come upon the same problem before and found something that works?

Originally they were bakelite. Look around an automotive supply for sheet high temp gasket material. You can cut your own then. 40 years ago I did see some use of asbestos paper like material. Not good idea any more.
Another thought. Teflon sheet. It is what the leads in some new spots are jacketed with.
