Yeah, but this is impressive even with that understanding. From IMDb news:

Clint Eastwood's Changeling, starring Angelina Jolie, will compete for the
Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival next month, festival organizers
announced today (Wednesday) as they unveiled the titles of 19 movies, selected
from 1,792 films submitted from 96 countries, that will vie for the
prestigious award. (A 20th film, from France, is due to be announced soon.)

Chosen as on of 20 out of 1,792 films submitted from 96 countries.

Wow.

it, haven't French science fiction fans already fallen in love with
Joe?

Do writers typically go to Cannes? Seems like they ought to, but I
don't recall seeing a lot of them.

Of course, the press typically focuses on the stars and directors....

Ya gotta admit, though, "Honey, want to go to Cannes next month?" is a
great way of starting aconversation with your significant other. :)

The opera singer Anne McKnight billed herself as "Anna di Cavalieri"

Straczynski can be loosely translated to mean passionate, fervent,
awfully, risk, peril, frighten, fear, dread, be afraid (of), terrible,
frightful, dreadful, and Last (Judgement). If Joe took the same
approach as Anne McKnight, he would could call himself

J. Michel la Peur

when he is in France.
